Physical Education and Sport

Physical Education

Our vision for P.E at St Barnabas is for all children to experience outstanding P.E lessons and school sport that will lead to lifelong participation. Following the fantastic Create Development scheme of work, every P.E lesson is focused around the fundamental movement skills, as well as building collaboration and competition.

Our principal aim is to make P.E enjoyable and inclusive for all. Children are given opportunity to experience a wide range of sports, as well as swimming lessons from year 2 to year 6. In addition, a number of skilled coaches work alongside teachers to deliver expert coaching in dance, football and gymnastics.

Sport is encouraged throughout school life and schools teams regularly compete in local competitions and against other schools. Furthermore a wide range of clubs run across the school year which are popularly attended.

What is PE and Sports Premium?

In order to improve Physical Education in primary schools the government is issuing an additional grant. The funding is jointly provided by Departments of Education, Health and Culture and Media and Sport. It is given directly to the schools and can only be spent on sport and PE provisions including hiring specialist PE teachers and coaches, professional development for the teaching of PE, running sports competitions and sports clubs.
