Science is a key part of the New Primary Curriculyum and plays a significant role in the St Barnabas Curriculum too. Each child in the school has a weekly science lesson. Science may be central to a topic in the Community Curriculum (Water - Year 4 or Earth and Beyond - Year 5) or it will be taught discreetly.
The new Science Curriculum encourages:
Working Scientifically:
  • asking simple questions and recognising that they can be answered in different ways
  • observing closely, using simple equipment
  • performing simple tests
  • identifying and classifying
  • using their observations and ideas to suggest answers to questions
  • gathering and recording data to help in answering questions

Scientific Enquiry:
  • develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
  • are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future
Please see our Curriculum Maps for the Science Topic taught in each Year Group.
